SYDNEY (AP) — Nigerian-born New Zealander Israel Adesanya will have some Southern Hemisphere support when he takes on American title challenger Sean Strickland in the main event of UFC 293 on Sunday. The fight at Sydney Olympic Park’s Qudos Bank Arena — across the Tasman Sea from Adesanya’s base in New Zealand — will give the middleweight champion an opportunity to add a submission, or tap out, to his fight results repertoire.A submission sees an opponent verbally concede the match due to pain or to avoid further injury. Adesanya’s 26 professional mixed martial arts fights include 16 wins by knockout and eight via decision (along with two losses), but none by submission.“What do I want in my career? Submission, I definitely want a submission,” Adesanya told media this week. “It might be this fight. I know he’s going to wrestle. He’d be dumb not to. I know he’s going to try and mix it up. He’s doing this whole thing, ‘Man dance, man dance.’”It’s the first time since ...

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Jawhar Jordan and Jamari Thrash each scored two touchdowns, and Louisville used a slew of explosive plays to dominate Murray State 56-0 on Thursday night for its first shutout in nearly three years. Six days after rallying past Georgia Tech 39-34 in Jeff Brohm’s coaching debut, the Cardinals (2-0) were never challenged by the FCS-level Racers (1-1) in the home opener.Louisville led 28-0 at halftime, with Jack Plummer threading a crossing pass to Thrash for a 73-yard scoring play and Jordan shaking a defender near the left sideline in a 72-yard TD run.Louisville set the tone with chunk plays on its first possession as Kevin Coleman made an incredible one-handed catch for 30 yards on third and 11. Plummer later hit a wide-open Jordan for 32 yards to the 12, and Thrash took a pitch on the next snap and dashed untouched for the TD to cap a six-play, 76-yard drive.Jordan, Louisville’s top rusher last season with 815 yards, carried seven times for 135 yards, includi...

Colombia gana por la mínima a Venezuela y comienza con buen pie su camino al Mundial

Published Wed, 12 Feb 2025 19:29:35 GMT

Based on a book by Audrey Shulman and adapted by Shulman, the mediocre effort “Sitting in Bars with Cake” memorializes a pastime known as “cake-barring.” That is, going to bars with a cake for fellow bar-goers to sample, especially men. I did not know it was a thing. But according to “Sitting in Bars with Cake,” a Prime Video effort featuring Yara Shahidi of TV’s “Black-ish,” Odessa A’zion (“Hellraiser”), Bette Midler and Ron Livingston, it is.In the film, Shahidi and A’zion are Los Angeles best friends Jane and Corinne, respectively. Jane bakes delicious cakes while avoiding applying to UCLA or USC law school as her lawyer parents (Navid Negahban and Adina Porter) desperately want. Corinne works in a music agency across from the iconic Capitol Records building as an assistant to the powerful, legendary and seemingly terrifying agent Benita (Midler). Corinne longs to be promoted to junior agent and keeps pitching ideas to Betina, who shoots down Corinne’s lat...
