Las Vegas was driving for the tying touchdown when Asante Samuel Jr. picked off Aidan O'Connell's pass at the Chargers 2-yard line with 2:33 remaining. It looked like the Raiders (1-3) might get one final chance, but Herbert completed a 51-yard pass up the left sideline to Joshua Palmer on third-and-10 from the Chargers 11 to ice the game.Herbert completed 13 of 24 passes for 167 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Stafford overcomes injury to throw winning TD pass to Nacua in OT to give Rams 29-23 win over Colts

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Matthew Stafford stumbled, slipped and limped his way through the final 20 minutes of regulation Sunday. Then the gutsy 35-year-old Los Angeles Rams quarterback showed everyone he's still gritty enough to finish what he started. After opening the game with four straight scoring drives and then watching a 23-point lead evaporate, Stafford played through a painful hip injury and threw a laser-like 22-yard touchdown pass to record-breaking rookie receiver Puka Nacua for a 29-23 overtime victory over the Indianapolis Colts.“The hardest part was it was kind of shutting down the leg a little bit to where you'd step and push and normal leg, it was step and push and then not normal. The muscles were kind of shutting down,” said Stafford, who twice fell to the ground on his own. “But I just kept going. I knew it was going to be one of those things that was pain/function so as long as I could keep it going on the sideline, I was going to stay in there.”He kept playing despit...

San Francisco 49er’s Christian McCaffrey scored four touchdowns which vaulted the 49ers toward a 35-16 win over the Cardinals on Sunday.McCaffrey nearly matched the franchise’s single-game touchdown record, but a potential fifth score was denied at the 2-yard line on a 2-yard run in the final minutes, and rather than give him the ball again, coach Kyle Shanahan called for a Brock Purdy sneak from inside the 1 to cap the scoring spree.“Honestly I had no idea until I came in here he had four touchdowns,” Shanahan said in his press conference. “I’m kind of shocked. Now I kind of feel bad.”Quarterback Brock Purdy set a franchise record himself, completing 20-of-21 (283 yards) and starting 13-of-13. He remains unbeaten in regular-season starts, and has gone 211 consecutive passes without an interception. The win secured a 4-0 record for only the fifth time in franchise history. The 49ers end their three-game homestand next Sunday night when the Dallas Cowboys return to the site of th...

GUIDONIA MONTECELIO, Italy (AP) — Europe won back the the Ryder Cup on Sunday, just like it always does before its raucous crowd, with Rory McIlroy leading the way and Tommy Fleetwood delivering the decisive point to extend his team’s dominance over the Americans on home soil. The outcome was never seriously in doubt at Marco Simone. Europe started the final day with a five-point lead. McIlroy, Jon Rahm, Viktor Hovland and Tyrrell Hatton put the Europeans on the verge of the cup, forcing the Americans to win the remaining five matches on the course.Just like everything else this week, there was little chance of that.McIlroy was still fired up over what he perceived to be bad behavior by Patrick Cantlay’s caddie on the 18th green the previous evening. He won his match to cap a 4-1 week and was Europe’s top scorer for the first time in the Ryder Cup.And then Fleetwood hit a signature shot on the signature hole, a drive to 25 feet on the reachable 16th. Dolphins’ high-powered offense stalls in Miami’s latest letdown at Buffalo

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 17:11:15 GMT

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) — No matter how productive their offense had been coming into Buffalo, Tua Tagovailoa and the Dolphins still find themselves trying to keep pace with the Bills in the AFC East.A week after enjoying one of the most productive offensive outputs in NFL history in a 70-20 win over Denver, the Dolphins were thoroughly outplayed in a 48-20 loss to Buffalo on Sunday.“It’s very humbling,” Tagovailoa said. “To be able to have the highest high, and then you lose in a manner like this.”The Dolphins (3-1) not only squandered an opportunity to open a season at 4-0 for the first time since 1995, but once again ceded the division lead to the three-time defending champion Bills. The Dolphins are 2-12 in their past 14 meetings with the Bills and lost their eighth consecutive game at Buffalo since 2017. That includes a 34-31 defeat in a wild-card playoff game in January.“I think the Buffalo Bills proved why they are the team our whole division is trying to beat,” coach Mike Mc...

Derek Carr plays through a shoulder injury, but struggles continue for the Saints’ offense

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 17:11:15 GMT

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Saints quarterback Derek Carr was visibly upset with himself after short-hopping a long sideline throw to an open Chris Olave early in the second half against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The rest of the game was just as frustrating for Carr and the sputtering New Orleans offense.Playing through a sprained shoulder that kept him out of practice earlier in the week, Carr threw for only 127 yards and failed to produce a touchdown in a 26-9 loss.A week after blowing a 17-0 fourth quarter lead to Green Bay when Carr was forced out in the third quarter, the Saints missed an early opportunity to take sole possession of first place in the NFC South.Instead, the Bucs moved to the top of the division.“That’s no excuse for us playing the way we did today,” Carr said. “Whatever it is that I have to do, I’ll do it. I just don’t want the shoulder to be an excuse for the way that we executed.”Very little went right for New Orleans after Taysom Hill slipped on a third-down catch wit...
