Russia accuses US of promoting ties between Israel and Arabs before Israeli-Palestinian peace deal

UNITED NATIONS (AP) — Russia accused the United States on Wednesday of promoting Israel’s normalization of relations with Arab nations and circumventing the Arab Peace Initiative launched by Saudi Arabia in 2002, which calls for a settlement to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict before any diplomatic recognition of Israel. The statement by Russia’s U.N. Ambassador Vassily Nebenzia at the U.N. Security Council’s monthly meeting on the Mideast also implicitly criticized Saudi Arabia — without naming it — for moving toward establishing diplomatic relations with Israel while taking “aggressive illegal actions” including an “unprecedented” expansion of settlements on territory that is supposed to be part of an independent Palestinian state.Nebenzia said U.S. efforts to normalize Arab-Israeli relations at a time that the “de facto” international legal framework for an Israeli-Palestinian peace settlement is being dismantled not only circumvents the “logic” of the Arab Peace Initiative, but i...

NEW DELHI (AP) — The Cricket World Cup returns to India after 12 years with the hosts desperately seeking to end its trophy drought at a major ICC event.India last won the 50-overs World Cup when it co-hosted the event in 2011 with Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — Lionel Messi was not on Inter Miami’s roster for the U.S. Open Cup final against Houston on Wednesday night, marking the fourth match for club and country that he’s missed in recent weeks while dealing with some sort of leg issue. And it’s unclear if Messi will continue to be sidelined with Inter Miami resumes its push to make Major League Soccer’s playoffs this weekend. The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner was subbed out of a match against Toronto on Sept. 20 in the first half because of a leg issue, and did not play in the team’s 1-1 draw at Orlando on Sunday. That was the third match he missed in its entirety — two for club, one for country — in the last two weeks, and missing a final on Wednesday suggests the problem could be worse than the team has suggested. Also out for Wednesday: Jordi Alba, another of Inter Miami’s celebrated midseason acquisitions. Alba has a leg injury and his status for upcoming matches is unknown. The ...

A Tewksbury man says he was having a punctuation problem. One that kept him from cashing a $2,000 security deposit check. That’s until Solve It 7 checked it out. Brandon Gunnoe has the story.“Every time I saw something that needed to be cleaned, I was on it,” Matthew said. Matthew kept the apartment he rented with his two roommates spotless.“I cleaned. I mopped. I swept,” Matthew said. That’s because he paid the entire $2,000 security deposit himself.“I left it clean. It didn’t get messy. I think I deserved the $2,000 back,” Matthew said. After Matthew moved out, he got that security deposit back.  “I was happy about it,” Matthew said. The check was made out to Matthew and his roommates because they were all listed on the lease. But there was a semi-colon between each of their names.“I saw the semi-colons. Brayan Bello struggles in final start, Red Sox shut down by Rays in 5-0 loss

Brayan Bello’s first full season in the big leagues will go down as a success, but the 24-year-old undoubtably would’ve preferred it ended on a higher note.Coming off a disastrous outing last time in Texas, Bello struggled again in his final start of 2023, allowing five runs on nine hits over six shaky innings. Even if Bello had been good it probably wouldn’t have mattered, as the Red Sox offense was shut down in the 5-0 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays. The loss assures Boston will finish the season with a losing record and in the basement of the AL East. The Red Sox also finish 2-11 against the Rays, who have continued to dominate Boston and are now 20-41 against the club dating back to 2020.Though far more competitive and composed than in his last outing, Bello was flirting with trouble throughout against a tough Rays lineup. The right-hander allowed a solo home run to Josh Lowe in the top of the second, and after loading the bases with no outs in the fourth, allowed t...
