They go on to say, “The future of our (young) generation depends on our political leaders taking action, yet Congress continues to ignore us.” With all their facts and figures, they fail to show that the greatest number of non-voting constituents are in fact their generation. All close elections have been won or lost by a margin far smaller than the number of people who don’t vote. If the younger generation really wants to change the world, they must vote. Democracy is not a spe...

By Sara Murray | CNNFulton County District Attorney Fani Willis declined to provide House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan with any additional information about her investigation of former President Donald Trump and his allies as well as any interactions with the Justice Department, according to a new letter obtained by CNN.“A charitable explanation of your correspondence is that you are ignorant of the United States and Georgia Constitutions and codes,” Willis wrote in her letter to Jordan, an Ohio Republican, Wednesday.“A more troubling explanation is that you are abusing your authority as Chairman of the Committee on the Judiciary to attempt to obstruct and interfere with a Georgia criminal prosecution,” she added.Willis previously provided information about the federal funding her office receives. 49ers should be more concerned with Browns’ Myles Garrett than Deshaun Watson

Published Fri, 07 Feb 2025 21:58:40 GMT

SANTA CLARA — Deshaun Watson absence from Cleveland Browns’ practice is not distracting 49ers from Sunday’s bigger issue: the Browns’ defense, and, Myles Garrett, in particular.“He’s one of the most talented guys anyone’s seen,” 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said Wednesday. “The style they play on defense is very similar to ours: they rush the passer on every play and then react to everything else.”The 49ers (5-0) make their first visit to Cleveland since 2015, the Browns (2-2) will rely on Garrett and their defense to key an upset bid, what with Watson unable to practice because of a rotator cuff injury.P.J. Walker, not rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson, will start ahead if Watson can’t play a second consecutive game because of a rotator cuff injury, the Browns announced. Prior to last weekend’s bye, Watson was somewhat of a surprise scratch against the Baltimore Ravens, so Thompson-Robinson drew the start and threw three interc...

Governor signs bill outlawing multi-state double voting inspired by Santa Clara County case

Published Fri, 07 Feb 2025 21:58:40 GMT

Gov. Gavin Newsom has signed a bill explicitly outlawing California residents from voting here and in another state for the same election, closing a loophole brought to light by a Santa Clara County case of people who had repeatedly voted in elections held on the same day.Assembly Bill 1539 makes it a misdemeanor for someone whose primary residence is in California to vote in another state where they also claim residency. The new law, signed Tuesday, was authored by Assemblymember Marc Berman, D-Menlo Park, and was sponsored by the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office.“Voting twice in the same election in two different states is a violation of the principle of one-person, one-vote,” Berman said in a statement. The inspiration for the bill came from a 2020 report to the district attorney’s office that three South Bay residents had voted in elections held on the same day in California and in Oregon, where they also had a home. But prosecutors found them...

Voting begins in Ohio with abortion rights on the line

Published Fri, 07 Feb 2025 21:58:40 GMT

By Julie Carr Smyth | Associated PressCOLUMBUS, Ohio — In-person voting for a November ballot measure over abortion rights began Wednesday in Ohio, the latest state where voters will decide the issue after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned a nationwide right to the procedure last year.Ohio is the only state to put an abortion rights question before voters this fall, making it a testing ground for messaging ahead of the 2024 elections when it’s expected to be on the ballot in more states and a major factor in races up and down the ballot.Election officials throughout the state are generally predicting heavier-than-normal turnout for an off-year vote because of the high-profile campaigning over Issue 1, a constitutional amendment that seeks to enshrine abortion rights.Mary Weiss was among the voters who entered an early voting center in Toledo during the first day of early in-person voting ahead of Election Day on Nov. 7.“Women should have total control over their own bodi...

Natalia Drozdiak and Courtney McBride | (TNS) Bloomberg NewsRussia is set to benefit from the Israel-Hamas conflict, as Israel’s requests for U.S. military aid risk diverting weapons and focus from Ukraine while the rising price of oil bolsters Moscow’s economy.U.S. and NATO allies have rebuffed concerns about their ability to continue supporting Ukraine militarily in the aftermath of Gaza-based militant group Hamas’s attack on Israel, which already receives billions in aid from Washington every year.Yet there’s a clear understanding in the Kremlin that the war between Israel and Hamas will work to Russia’s favor, according to two people with knowledge of the situation, who asked not to be identified because of the sensitivity of the issue. The conflict may, at the very least, work to distract U.S. and European attention from the war in Ukraine, the people said, even while Russia has concerns about its escalation.President Vladimir Putin’s objectives “will be achieved faster” if a U...
