SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Spicy Purrito, a cat boutique at 34 Jay Street in Schenectady, is closing its storefront. Owner Tonya Hall made the announcement in a Facebook post on August 20. "I’m proud of myself for having the courage to take this journey, and I’m even prouder to be able to acknowledge when to change course."In the post, Hall said this store was supposed to be a "side gig." With her full-time job, hobbies, and other changes in her life, she found she could no longer run the shop. "One just can’t do it all," said Hall. ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The New York State Racing Association (NYRA) announced today they plan to enforce new rules regarding veterinary checkups of all horses for trainers looking to enter them in a race or partake in a timed workout on NYRA properties. These rules will begin starting Wednesday, August 30, and build on NYRA's current process for veterinarians checking on horses on race day. The examination is a condition of entry and must be performed by the private attending veterinarian within a 72-hour window prior to entries being accepted for a race. Multi-Vehicle Crash near Discovery Bay Boulevard Resulted in FatalityCONTRA COSTA, CA (August 22, 2023) – Wednesday morning, a head-on collision on state Highway 4 left one fatality.The deadly crash happened around 7:10 a.m. along Highway 4, near Discovery Bay Boulevard.Based on the investigation, an Acura traveling west crossed the eastbound lane to pass another vehicle. Consequently, the Acura collided head-on with a Ford F-350 traveling in the opposite direction.The first responders declared the Aura passenger dead at the scene. Their identity has not been released to the public, pending notification of the next of kin.Meanwhile, the driver was rushed to a hospital for treatment of major injuries. Three people have died after drinking milkshakes from a Tacoma fast-food restaurant, Washington’s health department reported.The three were among six people hospitalized with an infection caused by one strain of Listeria bacteria. The same strain was found in the two ice cream machines at Frugals, a hamburger drive-through.The machines, which “were not cleaned correctly,” were taken out of use on Aug. 8, after health inspectors made the connection to the sickened diners, the health department said.Because Listeria can sicken people for up to 70 days, those who had a Frugals milkshake before Aug. 8 are advised to seek medical care if they’re suffering flu-like symptoms and are pregnant, elderly or immunocompromised.
