DENVER (KDVR) -- The Colorado Republican Party said it has asked the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn a ruling from the state's supreme court that removed former President Donald Trump from Colorado's 2024 ballot. In their 4-3 ruling, handed down on Dec. 19, Colorado Supreme Court justices claimed that Trump is ineligible for the ballot under 14th Amendment concerns due to his alleged role in facilitating the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol. Trump blocked from Colorado ballot: 5 takeaways The Colorado GOP is appealing that decision on three points: Whether the role of the president is subject to disqualification by section three of the 14th Amendment, the so-called insurrection clause.Whether Section 3 of the 14th Amendment is "self-executing," in that it allows states to remove candidates from the ballot in the absence of any Congressional action.Whether denying a political party the ability to choose a candidate of its choice in a presidential primary and general election viola...

WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) - Tensions are rising between the U.S. and Iran. Defense officials say American ships shot down more than a dozen drones and missiles in the Red Sea Tuesday following a drone attack on a U.S. air base in Iraq on Christmas day that follows a retaliatory strike by the U.S. on Iranian-backed terrorist groups in Iraq earlier this week. The back-and-forth strikes undercut efforts by the U.S. and others to keep the Israel-Hamas war from spilling into a wider regional conflict. For weeks, Iranian backed militia groups in Yemen and elsewhere have launched drone attacks against shipping freighters in the Red Sea.Many of which were intercepted by U.S. missiles. On Christmas day, U.S. forces in Iraq were injured in a drone attack linked directly to Iran.Officials say three service members there were hurt. The U.S. responded by striking multiple Iranian-backed targets in Iraq.U.S. officials say those strikes killed at least one militant and injured 18 others but also sparked an...

A petition to remove Donald Trump’s star from the Hollywood Walk of Fame has received thousands of signatures, but the decision on whether to remove the star is just as controversial as the man whose name is on it. Trump’s star, which he received in 2007, has been destroyed and replaced several times, but no star has ever been permanently removed from the Walk of Fame despite several celebrities’ fall from grace. The man who started the petition to get rid of Trump’s star for good, Andrew Rudick, says that while he has garnered more than 3,800 signatures for his petition, he’s also been the subject of a death threat and an attempted taser attack.  ‘That ’70s Show’ actor Danny Masterson begins lengthy sentence at North Kern State Prison Rudick told KTLA 5’s Mary Beth McDade that in addition to the petition, he has gone to several city organizations in the hopes that they would remove it permanently. “I think the city should take themselves up on that charge and finally stop being ‘...

Trump’s Hitler rhetoric denial is part of a broader pattern

Published Fri, 07 Feb 2025 08:30:04 GMT

By Jill Colvin | Associated PressNEW YORK — Donald Trump has centered his unlikely rise from reality television star to onetime — and potentially future — president on the idea that he’s wiser than Washington’s bumbling political class, once going so far as to label himself a “very stable genius.”But when it comes to one of history’s darkest moments, Trump is professing ignorance.Facing criticism for repeatedly harnessing rhetoric once used by Adolf Hitler to argue that immigrants entering the U.S. illegally are “poisoning the blood of our country,” Trump insisted he had no idea that one of the world’s most reviled and infamous figures once used similar words. The Nazi dictator spoke of impure Jewish blood “poisoning” Aryan German blood to dehumanize Jews and justify the systemic murder of millions during the Holocaust.“I never knew that Hitler said it,” Trump told conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt on Friday, ...

Argentina’s unions fill streets to protest president’s actions

By Almudena Calatrava | Associated PressBUENOS AIRES, Argentina — Thousands of union members and activists took to the streets of Argentina’s capital Wednesday to protest a decree from President Javier Milei that imposes sweeping deregulation and austerity measures meant to revive the country’s struggling economy.Unions had asked a court for a prior injunction to block measures lifting some labor protections, but a judge rejected the appeal, noting the decree had not yet entered into effect. It does so on Friday.Argentine labor activists question whether Milei, a self-described anarcho-capitalist who has long railed against the country’s “political caste,” can impose the measures by way of an emergency decree bypassing the legislature where his party has few seats.“We do not question the president’s legitimacy … but we want a president who respects the division of powers, who understands that workers have the need to defend themselves ...
