BUFFALO, N.Y. Low scoring, gritty games and games where we just find a way.”Zemgus Girgensons and Jeff Skinner also scored for Buffalo, and rookie goalie Devon Levi stopped 21 shots in rebounding after opening the season with two losses.Sabres coach Don Granato never felt his team experience a let down in confidence entering the extra frame.“I love where they were at and just felt confident that they were going to get the job done,” Granato said. “And I think that was probably our message, just move o...

Tension was in the air at a hearing in Rockville, Maryland, on doing away with the tipped wage credit and phasing in a minimum wage that matches the rest of Montgomery County among both sides of the debate. As the Tuesday afternoon hearing started, Montgomery County Council President Evan Glass urged both sides to be “respectful,” adding that “we know there are a lot of emotions, and a lot of concerns” on both sides of the debate. The legislation, Bill 35-23, County Minimum Wage — Tipped Workers, would raise the minimum wage for tipped workers from the current $4 an hour rate with a $2 an hour increase by July 2024. The hourly wage would continue to increase until it matches the county’s own minimum wage, which currently ranges from $14.50 to $16.70 an hour, depending on the number of employees in the workplace.Council members Will Jawando and Kristin Mink have championed the bill, arguing it would raise the floor for workers.Maryland Del. Editorial: Hamas attack should be recognized as act of terrorism

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 14:50:01 GMT

There should be no debate over the language we use to describe Hamas and its depraved Oct. 7 attack on Israel.Hamas is a terrorist organization, and the acts of its agents on Oct. 7, when they crossed the border into Israel with the express intent of killing and kidnapping civilians, were terrorism. That makes them terrorists. While some have suggested Hamas’ political role in Gaza means it is not a terrorist organization, it is clearly targeting civilians for political ends, which is the very definition of terrorism..The danger in using euphemisms such as “militants” to describe terrorists is that it normalizes heinous acts of terrorism and implies that the deliberate targeting of civilians is a military act and that Hamas at large has some other, less despicable objective. But let’s be clear: Hamas’ stated goal in its founding charter calls for the obliteration of the state of Israel. The United States, the European Union, the United Kingdom and Canada have all formally designated Ha...
